March 2025
At our 27 March meeting, guest Speaker, Graham Lambie, gave us a most comprehensive and well researched lecture on RMS Olympic. It covered the ship’s career from conception to scrapyard. Graham included the major Edwardian shipping companies, White Star, Cunard, IMMCo and builders Harland & Wolff. The race for supremacy on the Atlantic and the shipping personalities of the day. The change of propulsion from steam reciprocating to turbines was also featured. A complete epoch was covered with some little-known facts on the ship revealed. From early days Graham had become interested in the Titanic but later as a Solicitor in Cowes , by happenstance, a couple of clients came his way in the form of a former H&W Chief electrical design engineer and a former lady PA at the firm. Both had been involved with the Olympic with an intimate knowledge of the ship. A superb lecture!
